Going through credit counseling service again?
I went through a credit counseling service 6 years ago and paid it off within 3-4 years. At that time I put the bills I accumulated when I was single. We recently bought a house and have accumulated Including debt? Lich student loans. My husband and I want to do the credit counseling service together now. Can we go? About credit counseling service more than once? This seems to be our only option. We do not want to file Chapter 7 or 13 depending.
I would strongly suggest you read “Extreme Money Makeover” by Dave Ramsey.
It’s an amazing book and if you follow the principles, you’ll be out of debt in no time. Friends of mine went from $15,000 in debt to being debt free in less than 6 months. And they don’t make tons of money!
Good Luck!
Credit couseling should have taught you how to get out of debt and stay out of it. They can’t do anything for you that you cannot do for yourself if you’re willing to extend the effort. I don’t think there would be a problem going through it again but if you didn’t learn anything from the first time, you may just be beginning a cycle of debt when the purpose of couseling was the stop you from doing that.
Credit counseling? you need a class on how to control your spending habits.
if you are thinking that you can lower your student loan payments then be aware that you can’t. I presume you can’t lower your mortgage payments either (hopefully you don’t have a balloon payment in a few years). So the only other bills you can reduce would be credit cards. The norm is that each person of the couple work 2-3 jobs apiece. Have you already done that? Hopefully you have two clunker cars and are doing your own work on them. At some point you have to learn not to depend on others to solve your credit woes. It seems like this time around you’re going to learn the lesson. You might want to see what you can sell on ebay that you don’t need, then get more employment.
Yes, you can go through more than once either together or seperately although it doesn’t sound like you need it. Neither your home nor student loans will be accepted through a legitimate credit counseling dept repayment plan. They are guaranteed even against bankruptcy but those low rates should be the least of your concern… start with the 15-24% credit cards in a debt repayment plan. If your individual credit is okay now, don’t go into the program but it sounds like he should. If most of your debts are in joint accounts, then talk to the counselor which route to go. They can review your accounts together and seperately to determine what will work to your advantage.
